Enjoyed my French class

I was looking to brush up on my French for a trip and tried Preply. Found a cool tutor for French for beginners. The online platform was pretty straightforward, didn't have any trouble getting connected. The lesson itself was fun, really conversational, which is what I wanted. Felt like I actually learned something useful. Definitely a good experience overall.

Decent value, few hiccups

I signed up for some Conversational English lessons. The tutor was excellent, really patient and engaging. The platform itself worked well most of the time, though I had one instance where the video feed was a bit laggy for a few minutes. Scheduling was easy enough, but finding an available slot with my preferred tutor sometimes took a bit of searching. Overall, the price for a bulk lesson package was reasonable, and I felt like I got good value, despite the minor technical glitch.

My go-to for Japanese

I absolutely love Preply for my Japanese tutoring! My tutor is fantastic; she really explains things clearly and makes learning fun. The online classroom is easy to use, and I've never had any technical issues. I've been taking lessons for a few months now, doing an intensive language course, and I've noticed a huge improvement in my speaking. I will definitely keep using Preply for all my language needs. Highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn a new language!

Got a great deal on my first lesson

I was hesitant to try online tutoring but saw they had a first lesson discount. I booked an English for kids lesson for my daughter. It was super affordable with the deal. The tutor was patient with her, and she actually enjoyed it. It felt worth the money since the initial cost was so low. Made me feel like it was a smart way to try it out without committing too much.

Is Preply actually legit? Like, are these tutors actual teachers or just random people online?

R Robert 2 weeks ago
It's legit. Tutors go through a verification process. Many are certified teachers, some are just native speakers with experience. You can see their qualifications on their profile.

Yeah, totally legitimate. I've been using it for a while for French. You can read reviews for each tutor and they have to submit stuff to prove they know what they're doing. Not just 'random people'.

Is Preply generally more expensive than like, Italki or Cambly? Just trying to compare my options for some business English help.

B Brian Phillips 2 weeks ago
It depends on the tutor's rate, honestly. I've seen some really cheap ones on Preply and some quite pricey. Italki can be similar. I think Preply might be a bit more structured for subscriptions.

For Business English, I found Preply had more tutors specializing in that, so you might find better value for what you need. Rates vary wildly on all platforms though, gotta shop around.

Found a 100% off code for a trial lesson. Can I stack that with a referral discount from a friend? Or is it usually just one promo at a time?

M Mark Hernandez 3 weeks ago
AFAIK, it's usually one per account, especially for first lessons. They usually say 'new users only' for those big discounts.

Pretty sure they don't let you combine stuff like that. The referral link probably gives you a similar 'free first lesson' type deal. You'll probably have to pick one or the other.

For the subscription model, what happens if I buy a bunch of hours but then decide Preply isn't for me? Can I get a refund for unused lessons?

R Rachel Hall 4 weeks ago
Yeah, they have a refund policy for unused hours. I think it's within a certain timeframe, but you can definitely get your money back for lessons you haven't taken.

I got a refund for some lessons I didn't use when my schedule changed. It was pretty straightforward, just hit up their support. Don't remember the exact window but it wasn't a problem.

What's the deal with rescheduling lessons? Is it usually free to move things around if something comes up, or do tutors charge you?

R Rachel Mitchell 2 weeks ago
You can usually reschedule for free as long as you give enough notice, usually a few hours before the lesson. It's all done through the platform.

M Matt Rodriguez 2 weeks ago
Yeah, rescheduling is generally fine and free. Just don't wait till the last minute, that's when tutors might have a 'no show' policy or something.
